Grover Cleveland

Occupation:
A lawyer who worked for the Rogers firm for three years, left the firm to start his own practice in 1862, in 1863 he was appointed district attorney of Erie county, appointed sheriff of Erie county in 1871, he then became mayor of Buffalo in 1882, became Governor of New York , became the 22nd and 24th president of the united states

Position:
The position I take on the annexation of the Philippines is that I am against it. I am an anti-imperialist and I am totally opposed to imperialism and expansion. I strongly believe in the beliefs of non-intervention. Issues in America I think are more important than the issues that are outside of America. I think that we should work out the issues in our country before we try and take on another country and the countries issues that go along with the country. Another reason is that I believe in a strong national union and on the problems that could come along with foreign countries.

Reasons for Interest:
- I hated the fact that the government sent American soldiers into the Philippines and it resulted into American soldiers fighting the Filipinos and killing them.

-I believed that America was just expanding what the Spanish had already started in the Philippines by trying to make the Filipinos make their country something they do not want it to be.

-The Filipinos obviously did not want the Americans to be in their country ruling them. They fought against the Americans ways of trying to change them. Guerilla Warfare was the result of the Filipinos resisting the Americans.

-I want to fix America's issues from the inside before I go outside of America and try and fix the issues of other countries like the Philippines.

-I am the Honorary Vice President of the Anti- Imperialist League, so I must stand up for my rights.

-The government would have more work in trying to fix the Philippines problems creating less time to focus on the issues in our own country.
